Buying safely
How do I avoid scams?+
Always view the boat in person before paying anything. Be wary of prices far below market value, sellers who can't meet, or anyone asking for payment by bank transfer, gift cards or crypto to 'hold' a boat. Use the Report button on any listing that feels wrong — our team reviews every report.
Should I get a survey?+
For anything beyond a small dinghy, yes. An independent marine surveyor will check the hull, rigging, engine and systems. Most brokers and serious private sellers will expect a survey as part of the sale, often with the price adjusted for findings.
What documents should the seller have?+
Look for proof of ownership (bill of sale, builder's certificate), VAT status evidence, registration documents if applicable, and service history. The listing's 'documentation' field tells you what the seller says they hold — verify it in person.
How do I pay for a boat safely?+
For private sales, a bank transfer at or after handover with a written bill of sale is normal. For higher-value boats, consider a broker escrow or solicitor. Never pay a deposit before viewing.
Can I make an offer below asking price?+
Of course — many listings are marked 'open to offers'. Send an enquiry with your offer and reasoning. Survey results are a common, fair basis for renegotiation.
Selling
How much does it cost to sell?+
It's free. During early access every private listing is free — no card, no commission, no four-week expiry — with up to 12 photos, and it stays live until the boat sells.
Why is my listing 'pending review'?+
Private listings are checked by our moderation team before going live — usually within one working day. You'll get an email as soon as it's approved (or with a reason if we need changes).
How do enquiries reach me?+
Buyers use the enquiry form on your listing. You get an email notification plus an entry in your dashboard inbox with the buyer's contact details, so you can reply directly.
How do I mark my boat as sold?+
In Dashboard → My listings, choose 'Mark as sold'. Sold listings stay visible with a Sold badge (great for trust) but drop out of normal search results.
Can I edit a live listing?+
Yes — edits to a published listing go live immediately. Significant changes are logged, and our moderators may review listings that change substantially.
Accounts & billing
Do I need an account to enquire?+
No — anyone can send an enquiry. An account lets you save boats, set up search alerts and track your enquiry history.
How do I become a seller?+
Register as a private seller, or upgrade a buyer account from your dashboard in one click. Broker accounts are created at registration or by contacting us.
How do payments and receipts work?+
Card payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your card details. Receipts are emailed automatically and your payment history is in your dashboard.
How do I delete my account?+
Contact support from your registered email and we'll remove your account and personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
Brokers & dealers
What does the broker plan include?+
During early access, broker accounts are free too — unlimited listings that publish instantly, up to 30 photos per boat, a branded profile page in the broker directory, and a shared enquiry inbox.
What does the 'Verified' badge mean?+
Our team has checked the broker's company details. Verification is free — contact support with your company information to apply.
Can I import my existing stock?+
Bulk import is on our roadmap. For now, the listing wizard is the quickest way to add stock — most brokers list a boat in a few minutes.
